12. Must ❤ Food!

No, seriously!  THIS is what I had for dinner last night. Now, I’m not gonna say we have to eat like this all the time – I am just as happy with cereal for supper – but there is something to be said for sharing a really great meal.  Tell me you like to eat and I’m yours for the night, tell me you can COOK and I’m yours for life!

Must give good gift

Must give good gift

I believe that great gift-giving is a talent. I adore finding, wrapping and the anticipation of giving the absolute perfect gift whether it’s for holiday, birthday or just because. It’s all about an investment of time and thought. I mean, the whole purpose of a gift lies in love, right?  Or, at least, it should. Now, I’m not saying Mr. Right is gonna spend all his dinero buying me stuff – though that’s not necessarily a bad thing, haha – but I do dig a man who really gets into the joy of giving.  No matter who the recipient is, it’s just waaaaaay more fun to give than to receive.

Baby's Got The Blues

Baby’s Got The Blues

Before You Accuse Me of being a complete ass, take note that my Papa was a Rolling Stone and my Mama was an Alley Cat. I grew up on Steve Miller Band dance parties and Van Morrisson lullabies. My personal soundtrack on Pandora makes me very, very happy but it’s ok if it’s not quite your thing. Having said that, I believe it’ll be a brown eyed handsome man who can play me those sweet, sweet Blues that’s gonna steal my heart away.

Clapton – Before You Accuse Me

The Temptations –  Papa Was A Rolling Stone

Snooky Pryor – How’d You Learn To Shake It Like That

Steve Miller Band – Jet Airliner

Van Morrisson – Crazy Love

Rolling Stones – Happy

Dirty Heads – Believe

Nina Simone – Brown Eyed Handsome Man

Bonnie Raitt & John Lee Hooker – I’m In The Mood For Love

Van Morrisson – Steal My Heart Away

Lucky Dube – Julie!Julie!

2. Reading is Sexy

Reading is sexy

Reading is sexy

I myself haven’t been spending much time in libraries these days. I mean I like my Juxtapoz and Rolling Stone and I scan the Yahoo! News front page every so often during the work day but other than that I’ve kind of dropped the ball when it comes to reading. But that doesn’t mean YOU shouldn’t flirt with the written word. Oh yeah, reading is so very sexy.

The Story

Say My Name

Say My Name

I recently re-connected with a long-lost friend from back in my soccer-mom days. We went for drinks the other night, she and I, enjoying Moscow Mules, asparagus fries and catching up on each other’s lives. Like me, she has worked hard to put her life back together after a trying divorce and is now successful in her profession and the proud mother of two handsome, healthy, happy sons. Unlike me, she is madly, deeply in love with the man of her dreams. As I listened to her dreamily recount the story of their romance, one thing in particular stood out to me,”He said, ‘Tracy, you are everything on my List.'”

Tracy is not the first person to mention The List to me although she is the first one to state that her man was the one doing the list-ing. My friend Sam keeps telling me I need to be very careful what I put out into The Universe because, without fail, The Universe always delivers. I have been operating under the “I am woman, hear me roar – I don’t need no man” dating strategy and though I have had a few dates here and there, lately I have been thinking Sam might be right. I’m getting exactly what I’m putting out there – a big fat nothing.

Now, let me just say right here and now that while there is always room for improvement, I am very happy with the life I have created for myself. I am content personally, professionally and artistically. I have fantastic, supportive friends and a crazy, loving family but I have to admit that it would be really, really great to have a ‘partner in crime’ to share my life adventures with. So, I did a little Googling on this List thing and it seems Oprah is the Queen of The List. I guess that’s cool. I mean, she is an expert on, like, everything, right?  Why wouldn’t she know about this? Plus she has been with Stedman for, like, a thousand years.  Anyway, according to Oprah, what you are doing is making clear for yourself exactly the person who will be right for you, and in so doing, directing The Universe to send that person to you.

SO, I’ve decided to loosely follow Oprah’s, Tracy’s and Sam’s lead and make my own List. Here on this blog, I will define all the qualities I would like this person with whom I will share my life to have. From family relationships to intelligence, a sense of humor, sex, religion, money, music, books, gardening, food, and on and on — right down to the color socks he wears. And what better way to get The Universe to hear me roar than from the rooftop of the Blogosphere, right?

So, without further ado, here is MY LIST.
